one-to-one befriending

One-to-one Befriending logo
COVEY can offer befriending services throughout Lanarkshire, building on nearly 30 years' experience supporting young people who experience some difficulty in their lives.

Through a trusted relationship and by spending just two hours a week with a trained volunteer befriender, young people are able to work through their difficulties, overcome their challenges and reach their potential.

An outing with a befriender can involve bowling, trips to the cinema or be as simple as a walk in the park. The aim is to spend quality time with a young person; being there for them, on time and as promised week to week. That reliability, consistency and care can make all the difference in the world.

Each of our befrienders is trained, and supported by our team of coordinators. We provide PVG checks and first aid training. All travel and other expenses are covered.

If you would like to help a young person and add colour to their lives you can find more about what's involved on our volunteering roles page.

Referral Criteria

Referrals for one to one befriending can come from Social Work, education or health for a young person, aged 8-17, living within Lanarkshire. They can be experiencing, difficulties at home, school or in the community. This can include, for example; behavioural issues, bullying, drug & alcohol misuse, abuse, disengagement from school, mental health challenges, and bereavement.

The first step is to phone our office to discuss the young person's needs and how we can best help.

Our telephone number is 01698 894013, or see our contact page for other details of how to get in touch.

"It has helped to boost my confidence and helped me to try new things."
